A birthday is always a day of change, even if we don’t expect it. We become a year older, wiser, perhaps kinder and better than we were before.
A birthday can change everything about you and the world. Take mine, for example.
When my friends came to celebrate, I had no idea how it would end. I didn’t know that a day that started with cake and presents would end with a journey to stop an evil I’d never heard of, a legend I didn’t know, from destroying everyone and everything I held dear. I didn’t know that on my birthday I would have to accept not only my destiny, but all my possible destinies, all our possible destinies. Now my friends and I explore lost ruins, soar through the skies on forgotten ships, face monsters I can barely imagine and will hardly survive, all in order to prevent the very end of the world.
Suddenly old age didn’t seem so bad.
