On a chilly October night in 1912, Gerald Crowe’s family and a few of their closest friends arrived in the Transylvanian mountains where Malashi Castle, the ancestral seat of Count Tepes, was located. Gerald and Eleanor Crowe’s eldest daughter, Rebecca, was to be married in holy matrimony to the Count’s son. The union would unite a family of impoverished English aristocrats with one of the richest and most distinguished families in Romania.

The only one who was late was Gerald Crowe’s youngest son, Jack. He had been delayed in Stockholm, where he had been defending the honor of the Union Jack in the noble art of fencing.

When the Count failed to come out to greet the arrivals, Gerald Crowe was deeply disappointed. However, he allowed the Count’s servants to escort the guests to their assigned quarters. Only when the heavy doors slammed shut behind them did Mr. Crow realize what a terrible mistake he had made. They were all now locked in one by one and at the complete mercy of the strange count.
