Two games, Monkey Island and Over the Garden Wall, collide on the edge of a dark forest somewhere in Sweden.
In this cozy little point-and-click fairy tale, you play as a gnome on an abandoned farm. You find a purpose in life when people start moving back into the house above you. Now, though, you have to try even harder, as you must battle a dark creature that lives in the nearby forest. You’ll have to ask for help from fairy-tale creatures. But each help comes at a price…
The game draws heavily on Swedish folklore, with illustrations influenced by artists like John Bauer and Alvaro Tapia. The story is based on solving riddles and puzzles, and there are multiple endings to choose from. The game is beautifully complemented by authentic music and voice acting. Not only will you get to know the folklore, but you will also learn a bit of Swedish history, as the game takes place in the 19th century, when more than a million people left the country due to famine and in search of a better place to live.
The game was developed by just one person for half a year, and the composer wrote a good musical accompaniment. If you loved atmospheric stories and fairy tales as a child, you will definitely like this game.
