The Mirage is based on a low-floor bus from the late 1990s called the Optare Solo. This bus was intended to replace the many minibuses that appeared after the deregulation of the UK bus industry in the 1980s to comply with the upcoming Disability Discrimination Act. It was launched at the Coach & Bus Show in late 1997 and Optare received orders worth over £9,000,000. It was a complete and utter success.
More than two decades later, it is still popular with operators large and small, albeit in the form of the current generation of the Solo, the SR. The OMSI 2 Add-on Digibus Mirage includes detailed exterior and interior models in two body lengths – 850 and 920. With authentic engine and mechanical sounds, as well as a classic 90s ticket machine, the add-on provides a realistic atmosphere for players.
