Combat Mission Fortress Italy takes wargamers to the “soft underbelly of Europe” – a place that was anything but. An often overlooked theater of war, Fortress Italy begins with the Sicilian Campaign from July to August 1943. Sicily was the first test for the newly reorganized and upgraded American forces, who fought the exhausted veterans of the Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe, as well as the numerous forces of the Italian Army.
