The action of the game Majesty takes place in the country of Ardania, in a fantasy setting. The player is the sovereign of Ardania. The gameplay involves building and hiring heroes to create a stable kingdom and fulfill the goals of the scenario. The first and main building is the palace. If it is destroyed, the game is lost (although the expansion introduced Outposts, which act as a “backup” palace). Heroes (human warriors in the game, except for the palace guards and sentries) live their own lives. Orders are not given to heroes directly; the player can only offer a reward (an attack flag or a reconnaissance flag is hung) for the head of an enemy or for exploring the area. If the reward is large enough, the heroes will begin to carry out the task. Moreover, even an enemy hero can be tempted by a huge reward. In addition, the heroes have various needs: drinking in a tavern, going to the market, fighting in tournaments, etc., etc. The heroes spend the money they earn in a variety of establishments; the tax collector then takes it and brings it to the palace (or outpost); if the tax collector is killed by a monster, he takes most of the money; then the hero who killed the monster takes it for himself. This is the cycle of money in the game. The hero’s level increases according to the standard system. Only gold is required to construct buildings. It is stored in the main treasury, located in the palace (or outpost).
