On her first day on the job, newbie Cassandra Clarke is paired with a grumpy and burned-out detective, Nate Houston. They are assigned to investigate the murder of a high-profile politician, and although all evidence points to a botched robbery, the detectives soon find themselves embroiled in a complex and interconnected series of crimes that will prove to be very difficult to solve.
