With the outbreak of the civil war, Spain was divided in two. Naturally, this conflict could not fail to attract the attention of foreign powers. For example, the USSR began to provide active support to local communists, sending them tanks and planes to help. The Spanish nationalists were not left alone either. They were helped by Italy and Germany, who saw this war as an excellent testing ground for their own weapons and practicing various combat tactics.
