The new set introduces two new characters to the game: Lady Trieu, the ruler of Vietnam, and Kublai Khan, the ruler of China or Mongolia.
Vietnamese civilization: Lady Trieu, the unique unit “War Elephant”, and the unique building “Thanh.
- Civ unique ability: Vietnam’s unique ability is “Nine Dragons Delta”. All specialized land districts can only be built on Rainforest, Marsh, and Forest tiles. Buildings on such tiles provide additional science, production, or culture points, depending on the terrain type. This ability also allows you to plant forests if you have the “Medieval Markets” civic.
- Leader unique ability: Lady Trieu’s unique ability is “Repel the Aggressor” – it increases the combat strength of units in battles on Rainforest, Marsh, and Forest tiles; if these tiles belong to Vietnam, the bonus is increased. If a unit’s turn starts on a Rainforest, Marsh or Forest tile, it gains additional movement points; if these tiles belong to Vietnam, the bonus is increased.
- Unique Unit: Vietnam has a unique medieval ranged unit, the War Elephant (Voitien). This unit can move after attacking and has increased mobility. It costs more than the Crossbowmen it replaces, but is stronger in defense and has an increased sight range.
- Unique District: The unique Thanh district produces an additional culture for each adjacent district. After researching aviation, this district produces not only culture, but also an equal amount of tourism. This district does not require population and is cheaper than the army camp it replaces.
Kublai can rule China or Mongolia (Rise and Fall expansion required to play as Mongolia).
- Leader Unique Ability: Kublai’s unique ability, Gerege, grants an additional economic policy slot under any government. When establishing the first trading post in another country’s city, this ability grants a random insight and inspiration.
- If Kublai rules China, he gains even greater bonuses to science, and the additional policy slot increases economic measures. As ruler of Mongolia, Kublai uses trade routes to build up his military might.
New game mode – “Monopolies and Corporations
A new mode – “Monopolies and Corporations” appears in the game along with the “Vietnam and Kublai” set. It allows you to raise the economic component of the game to a qualitatively new level and receive rewards for the development and use of natural resources in any era.
- Creating enterprises on excess rare resources gives huge bonuses to the cities in which they are located, and additional points of the Great Trader.
- Enterprises can be converted into corporations and given unique names. Corporations enhance all the effects of enterprises and produce products. The output can be shipped to other cities, spreading the effects of the enterprise throughout the entire civilization.
- A civilization that owns all the world’s reserves of a certain rare resource can create a monopoly. Monopolies provide tourism points and can significantly increase gold income per turn.
New District and New Buildings:
the Vietnam & Kublai Khan set also includes a new district and new buildings:
- New District: Sanctuary; can be created in an isolated area with no infrastructure. This district greatly increases the cultural production of adjacent unoccupied tiles, provides additional housing based on prestige, and increases the prestige of adjacent tiles.
- New Buildings: The Sanctuary can be used to build two buildings. The Grove becomes available after discovering Mysticism, and the Sanctuary becomes available after discovering Nature Conservation. These buildings increase the productivity of adjacent tiles at the Attractor and Awesome levels without any upgrades.
